In a joint session Monday afternoon, the Flagstaff City Council and Coconino County Board of Supervisors were briefed on a massive potential telescope array in northern Arizona, the proposed Interstate 11 linking Phoenix and Las Vegas and the Flagstaff Regional Plan.
All the projects could have a potentially large impact on the region.
Opening the meeting, Lowell Observatory Director Jeff Hall told the local leaders about the Cherenkov Array project.
The array of 40 telescopes could generate more than $100 million in construction spending if built here. And once built, the telescopes would have an annual operations budget of $10 million.
