Prescott ordinance under review for 120 group homes

After months of discussion about the rapid growth in the number of group recovery homes in the community, the Prescott City Council will consider an ordinance this week that would move toward stricter regulations.

Central to the proposed changes is a reduction in the allowable number of unrelated people living together in a single-family dwelling. While the city code currently allows eight, the proposed ordinance would reduce the number to six.

In addition, the proposed ordinance would define “single housekeeping unit.”

A city memo explains that the existing Land Development Code defines family as any number of people who are related or a group of up to eight unrelated people living together as a single housekeeping unit.
