Heat, hay and horses drifted through the newly renovated Tony Nelssen Equestrian Center in Scottsdale this week.
Amid nearly triple-digit temperatures, the center is hosting the Arizona Quarter Horse Association’s Arizona Fall Championship through Sunday. The event now has air-conditioned space, thanks to a $47 million expansion-andenclosure project at WestWorld.
“The event has existed before, but this new space is making a huge difference,” said event producer Doug Huls, who also produces the Arizona Sun Circuit Quarter Horse Show.
Two years ago, the Scottsdale City Council signed off on a funding and financial plan for the expansion of the equestrian center at WestWorld, a cityoperated venue that is home to the Barrett- Jackson Collector Car Event.
