The Arizona Solar Energy Industries Association is calling for an investigation into Arizona Public Service Co. and the utility providing money to a pair of outside groups in the ongoing battle over the state’s net metering policy.
APS officials said today — after several months of denials — that the company has provided money to groups Plus 60 and Prosper, both of which have run ads saying the state’s policy on how the utility pays solar owners for excess power — known as net metering — needs to be changed.
“We’re in a political fight that we didn’t ask for,” said APS spokesman Jim McDonald. “We have got to make our point on the issue.”
APS declined to say how much it has invested with the two groups. It was linked to Plus 60 in July after hiring lobbyist Sean Noble and his firm DC London, who also worked for 60 Plus.
