Former Arizona Public Service Co. lobbyist and vice president Martin Shultz isn’t pleased a spokesman for rooftop-solar companies suggested on Twitter last week that the executive would not have engaged in the marketing that the utility is involved in now.
Shultz retired from the utility in 2010 and joined a law firm.
APS and the solar industry have engaged in an intense debate this year over net metering, the credits that solar customers get for the excess electricity they send to the grid. APS wants to decrease the credits.
The campaign has involved nasty television advertisements, both from APS supporters who have targeted the solar industry, and from the solar companies that contend the utility is trying to kill their industry.
Publicist Jason Rose, representing big solar companies, tweeted last week: “What’s happened to culture at APS? Under Bill Post/Marty Shultz admired #arizona company. Now? Lies, scandal, ruthless #solar taxer.”
