Housing developers in Glendale are rallying for the first time since 2008, constructing new homes and planning others that would sprawl past Loop 303.
At least 10 subdivisions have nearly finished or are in the works this year, with about a half-dozen others in the planning stages.
Land use attorney, Jordan Rose, adds, “over just the last two months we are seeing an increase in residential and commercial planning activity.”
Despite the work and plans underway, the city has issued half as many single-family home building permits from January through September as in the same period last year. Such permits are the reality check on building plans, indicating a home is nearing construction.
Planning Director Jon Froke said he couldn’t say what prompted the decline. He said developers expect plenty of demand to fill their lots in the coming years.
