With beautiful weather in the forecast it’s going to be quite a week for America’s largest polo event: The Scottsdale Ferrari-Maserati Polo Championships.
Here’s a quick summary of how you can enjoy the event over the coming week:
* Thanks to Heineken, The Heineken Red Star Corral will debut. Open on Friday as well, Saturday is when it will be fully animated with drinks and DJs, courtesy of SMASHBOXX. Think Bird’s Nest, but right on the field of play. And it will be the location for the on-site After-Party from 4:30pm-7:00pm on Saturday.
* The Molina Fine Jewelers VIP Polo Preview Party on Thursday, October 31st from 6pm-8pm at 3134 E Camelback Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85016. Dress Polo and meet all the players and teams that will be playing on Friday and Saturday. The event is being graciously hosted by Molina Fine Jewelers and Penfolds Wines. * On Friday, November 1st visit My Sisters’s Closet at noon (6204 N. Scottsdale Rd., Scottsdale, AZ 85253) for a mid-day reception with polo star and fashionista Melissa Hornung, Chairman of the Clogau Wales Polo Team and friend of the Royal Family Harry Legge-Bourke and American Polo Star Jeff Hall. * Also on Friday, November 1st from 1pm-3pm enjoy a test drive, at the Penfolds Polo Field at WestWorld, courtesy of Scottsdale Ferrari-Maserati before the match and gates open that day. Look for details Monday.
* On Friday, November 1st gates open at 3pm before the Phoenix International Raceway and My Sister’s Closet teams square off at 4pm featuring the best players in Saturday’s matches. Some reserved tables, as well as tickets are available at www.thepoloparty.com. The day will conclude in the Volvo of Phoenix Fashion Lounge with a fashion show presented by Phoenix Fashion Week.
* Some of the best players and teams highlight “Spectacle Saturday.” The country’s best female player Sunny Hale, American polo star Jeff Hall, a U.S. Military Team, one from Wales featuring top players in the UK, the 2012 college champions from the University of Virginia and the sport’s most amazing story in the form of Work to Ride, as featured on 60 Minutes and HBO. Gates open at 10am with matches at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.
* Former Arizona Cardinal and current team broadcaster Ron Wolfley will be on hand to do the “First Drop” in Saturday’s featured match at 3pm, with event Grand Marshall Bob Bondurant driving in before the 1pm match to do the “First Drop” then.
* We are pleased to welcome back colorful play-by-play announcer Steve Lewandowski from the San Diego Polo Club to bring you all the action along with KTAR Sports Talk Show Host John Gambadoro.
* You will notice a lot of vendors this year too to enhance your on-site enjoyment including Evan’s Furs & Leathers, in case anyone is looking for a memorable holiday gift already.
* Our operations and security teams have been enhanced and we have added tent concierges to aid your experience in tented areas.
* And we are pleased to welcome the Arizona Porsche Concours d’ Elegance to the event this year. Those amazing cars will be on display all day Saturday.
* Lastly, if you are intrigued by the sport, don’t forget the Arizona Polo Club will be hosting an introductory clinic on Sunday at the same polo field. Learn what it takes to get involved and enjoy this amazing sport.
