Anti-property tax group forms to oppose Kingman effort

Well, that didn’t take long.

Two weeks after the Kingman City Council informally announced it would ask voters to re-establish a property tax in a special election that could be held next spring, a group calling itself No City Property Tax has organized to fight the effort.

While Mayor Janet Watson and the City Council agreed any property tax would be dedicated to public safety – police and fire services – the group believes there are other revenue-raising avenues available.

What wouldn’t work, say opponents, is placing another tax on a citizenry that already struggles mightily.
