Local businesses will soon gain a competitive edge when they bid on city of Casa Grande jobs following a change in city policy that allows those businesses to deduct the 2 percent local transaction privilege tax from their bid total.
The new policy is being implemented via an administrative process.
During a Monday work session, the City Council heard about the new policy that gives local businesses a competitive edge.
“This helps local businesses win our bids,” said Steven Turner, Casa Grande’s new management analyst.
Only local businesses that pay the 2 percent sales tax to the city are eligible for the preference, Turner said.
“Bigger, national stores that don’t pay that tax to Casa Grande aren’t eligible,” Turner said.
Most stores and businesses that are owned and operated in Casa Grande and have had a Casa Grande business license for more than six months will qualify, he said.
The 2 percent will be deducted during the bid evaluation process.
