If you watch TV commercials or read the news, you likely have heard the phrases “net metering” and “fair is fair.”
They center on a proposal by Arizona Public Service (APS) to raise rates on electricity, specifically those people who have PV (photovoltaic) solar systems on their homes.
The rate hike proposal is slated for consideration by the Arizona Corporation Commission this week. The new rate structures would require all grid-connected solar-electric-producing customers to sell the electricity they generate to APS at wholesale rates, and then buy back what they use at the full retail rate – about three times the cost.
