Google Inc. is teaming with KKR & Co. for an investment in six Recurrent Energy solar plants, the companies announced Thursday.
Google will spend $80 million on the projects. Reports value the overall investment at about $400 million.
The companies are investing in six solar-power plants being built by Recurrent Energy LLC in California and Arizona.
Together the plants are designed to produce about 106 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 17,000 U.S. homes.
The investment will be the latest in clean energy for Google, which has been putting money into solar and wind projects for purposes including powering data centers.
Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) and KKR (NYSE: KKR) agreed in 2011 to invest in four Recurrent solar farms near Sacramento.
Google also recently announced a $103 million investment in the Imperial Valley Solar 1 project being developed by Silver Ridge Power LLC.
