Hugh Hallman Announces Support for Candidacy for State Treasurer From Coalition of East Valley Municipal Leaders

NEWS RELEASE

Local Leaders Believe Hallman is Right Choice to Help Manage State’s Finances

A broad coalition of current and former elected officials from almost every East Valley city have joined together to endorse Republican Hugh Hallman’s campaign for Arizona State Treasurer.

The endorsements come with the 2014 Primary about nine months away, but the group of East Valley leaders agreed that Hallman is the right choice for the office. These leaders rely on the Treasurer to guide investments not only for the State of Arizona, but also investments for 82 cities and towns through its Local Government Investment Pools.  These leaders know that a skilled, proven fiscal leader is essential to protecting their communities’ investments, and so support Hallman to be our State’s next Treasurer.

The group of current and former mayors, vice mayors and council members from the East Valley include:

·         Apache Junction Mayor John Insalaco

·         Gilbert Mayor John Lewis

·         Former Gilbert Mayor Steve Berman

·         Paradise Valley Mayor Scott LeMarr

·         Former Paradise Valley Mayor Vernon Parker

·         Former Paradise Valley Mayor Ed Lowery

·         Former Paradise Valley Mayor Ed Winkler

·         Former Mesa Councilmember Bill Jaffa

·         Former Queen Creek Mayor Art Sanders

·         Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane

·         Former Scottsdale Mayor Sam Campana

·         Former Tempe Mayor Rudy Campbell

·         Tempe Vice Mayor Onnie Shekerjian

“I’ve worked with Hugh Hallman while he served the people of Tempe as their mayor, and while he served the region as Treasurer and Chair of the Maricopa Association of Governments.  The amount of energy and expertise he brings to his public service is exceptional,” Mayor Lane said.

Gilbert Mayor Lewis said Hallman has a skill set that is uniquely suited to the office of State Treasurer.

“Arizona voters have an opportunity to elect someone to serve as their State Treasurer with a wealth of relevant experience,” he said. “When he was Mayor, Hugh did a great job making sure that Tempe city government was run in a fiscally sound manner.  He will bring that same expertise to state government.”

Paradise Valley Mayor LeMarr said that Hallman’s leadership on regional issues over the years shows how well he would serve the state as Treasurer.

“Hugh has been a leader on many key challenges we’ve faced in the Valley, and has made a significantly positive impact in the process,” LeMarr said. “We need someone with his capabilities in this important office to make sure our taxpayer dollars are managed responsibly.”

Hallman said he is appreciative of the support of the coalition of East Valley leaders, and has enjoyed serving with them over the years during his time as Mayor of Tempe, in leadership at MAG and on the Tempe City Council.

“It is humbling and gratifying to have the support of individuals I have grown to admire and respect for their leadership in their communities,” Hallman said. “Each of them has shown a commitment to fiscal responsibility that should serve as a model for our state as we prepare for our future. I thank them for their support and appreciate the experience I have gained in working with them over the past 15 years since I joined the Tempe City Council.”
