Judges tosses 8 of 9 convictions for former Ariz. House aide

A federal judge tossed out eight of nine wire-fraud convictions against a former Arizona House staffer Friday, agreeing that the staffer committed wire fraud only once when he diverted campaign cash for his own personal use.

The ruling leaves John Rowland Mills with a conviction on one count of wire fraud at his sentencing hearing Wednesday.

Mills admitted taking money from the campaign account of Republican James Weiers when he was the Arizona House speaker.
