Rep. Debbie Lesko will challenge incumbent Republican Sen. Rick Murphy in Legislative District 21, citing concerns that his ongoing “personal struggles” could cost the GOP a seat in the Arizona Senate.
Lesko, R-Glendale, announced Wednesday she’ll run against Murphy, the Peoria Republican under investigation by Child Protective Services for sexual abuse allegations involving two of his foster children.
Lesko told the Arizona Capitol Times earlier this month that she was considering running against Murphy, a member of the Legislature since 2005, out of concern that a Democrat or liberal Republican could defeat him due to his personal issues beyond the Capitol.
Lesko and Murphy both represent Legislative District 21.
