If the Little America expansion project has an Achilles’ heel, it appears to be the 18-hole golf course.
At least that’s the impression given by a public hearing Tuesday that saw two members of the Flagstaff City Council and several audience members zero in on the course and the treated effluent needed to keep it green.
The hearing concerned Little America’s request for a major regional plan amendment to accommodate not only a golf course on its 537-acre property but also a second hotel, a shopping center and 1,400 housing units.
The golf course would need 610,000 gallons per day in the summer, but the city estimates it will have only 560,000 gallons available, based on current customers and planned upgrades.
