Sen. John McCain said last month he’s considering running for a sixth term in 2016 and now the Arizona Republican is taking a step toward doing that.
According to The Arizona Republic, McCain has scheduled a December fundraiser in New York City.
A copy of an invitation to the fundraiser asks supporters to join McCain as he considers “running for re-election to the U.S. Senate.”
Suggested per-person donations for the event range from $1,000 to $5,200.
McCain will turn 80 in 2016. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1982 and he won his Senate seat in 1986.
McCain was the Republican presidential nominee in 2008.
