When Surprise voters overwhelmingly approved an updated General Plan this week, they paved the way for the city to grow in a more modern direction.
The city spent more than a year overhauling the document, which serves as a blueprint for development through 2035. A citizens advisory committee updated chapters that deal with transit, neighborhoods, parks and business districts. An emphasis on connections between neighborhoods, transportation links, sustainable development, and walkability will bring Surprise in line with current trends in urban design.
The plan will not have any immediate effect on specific projects.
