[OP-ED] Despite handicaps, we didn’t fail on foreclosure aid

In 2010, President Obama unveiled the Hardest Hit Fund program. The overall intent seemed reasonable: provide the states hardest hit by the housing crisis with federal funding to prevent foreclosure. Eventually, the program was extended to a handful of other states experiencing high unemployment rates.

Unfortunately, as we have experienced too many times over the years, the government was flying by the seat of its pants. Bureaucrats were pushing funds at a fevered pace to the states and ironing out the details later. That’s no way to do business, and it’s no way to solve a housing crisis.

At the Arizona Department of Housing, we developed the Save Our Home AZ program. Our primary focus is providing relief to hard-working Arizonans who have fallen on hard times. I’m very proud that our program has changed lives and kept families in their homes, despite this tough economy.
