Peoria approves labor contract with police association

Peoria has wrapped up the last of its contentious labor negotiations that dragged on for most of the year.

The City Council on Tuesday, Nov. 5, approved a new labor contract with the Peoria Police Officers Association that will give officers an average pay increase of 3.3 percent over the length of the three-year deal.

The police officers were the last to reach an agreement out of three labor group negotiations that came to an impasse.

The contract with the police officers includes no pay increase in the first year and 5 percent merit increases in the second and third years for all eligible officers, with an $850 lump-sum payment for those who are at the top of their pay grade. All officers will receive an $850 lump-sum payment in the first year. The limits for compensatory leave time and annual vacation cash-out amounts also increased.
