Pinal County’s general fund balance at the end of the fiscal year in June was a bit less than expected, but the hit to that fund is expected to be even more substantial the next few years.
On Wednesday, county supervisors heard a presentation from Budget Director Jason Konrad on general fund projections through the fiscal year ending June 30, 2017.
The ending fund balance for the 2012-13 fiscal year on June 30 was $48 million, while it was projected to be $49 million. It came up $1 million short due to water damage at the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office and unexpected costs due to legal settlements on development fees and agreements, including a $100,000 settlement reached with former Pinal County Attorney’s Office investigator James McCormack, who filed a lawsuit against the office alleging wrongful termination.
McCormack now works for the Pinal County Public Defender’s Office as part of the settlement.
