Saved by firefighters, Sen. Smith’s daughter recites pledge of allegiance [VIDEO]

About three months after firefighters saved the daughter of state Rep. Steve Smith from choking on a chicken nugget, the 3-year-old got to show off her public speaking skills before city officials.

Josephine, daughter of the District 11 Republican, perfectly recited the pledge of allegiance at the start of Tuesday’s city council meeting. Smith, a Maricopa resident, said it was a way for the Smith family to say thanks to firefighters.

He said his family was having dinner when Josephine began choking on a nugget she didn’t fully chew. Smith’s wife called 911.
