The Yavapai Downs horse racetrack got a new owner in February 2013, and he’s still hoping to reopen it.
Gary Miller, then-president of the Arizona Horseman’s Benevolent & Protective Association that represents horsemen, agreed to pay $5.5 million for the track facilities through a federal loan that he has to start paying back in March.
Miller is pursuing financing to get the track open after previous financing fell through.
“I’m closer now than I’ve been before,” Miller said this week. “My goal continues to be to open the racetrack in time for racing this May.”
