The improvement of the economy is the important driver for the City of Cottonwood during 2013, says City Manager Doug Bartosh.
The economy across the country has improved generally since its recessionary collapse in 2007 and 2008, but Cottonwood managed to escalate business throughout the recession thanks to the resurgence in Old Town Cottonwood, an achievement remarkable since most other business was flat.
Other factors include the growth of local wine industry as a tourist draw, and Cottonwood’s successful destination events.
The Business Assistance Center, first established by the Northern Arizona Council of Governments and Yavapai College, played an important role in building new energy. Economic Development Director Casey Rooney helped capitalize on the Verde Valley’s growing wine industry, making wine tasting a reason to come to Old Town, Cottonwood.
