Fountain Hills is backing a much-lower rate increase for town customers than EPCOR Water is requesting of the Arizona Corporation Commission.
EPCOR, formerly Chaparral City Water Co., is seeking a 34.8 percent rate increase for the Chaparral district, including the town’s 13,600 customers. If an increase is approved, it would be implemented on May 1.
Last week, Corporation Commission staff announced that they are recommending an 11.46 percent rate increase for the utility. Staff based the recommendation on adjustments, mostly reductions, made to cost figures submitted by the utility, according to testimony by Gerald Becker, an executive consultant in the commission’s utilities division.
