Gilbert has selected SmithGroupJJR, one of the nation’s largest architectural firms, to lead the design of a four-story St. Xavier University campus expected to open in the downtown Heritage District by 2015.
The campus could cost the town around $30 million to build while pumping an estimated $282 million into the local economy over the next decade, according to a recent study by Applied Economics, a consulting firm retained by the town to provide an economic analysis.
While the $30 million construction figure is only a rough projection, a more accurate estimate is expected later from the project architect, engineer and general contractor, economic development director Dan Henderson said.
