Gilbert Mayor John Lewis urged state legislators to restore millions of dollars in highway funding, intended for cities but swept by the state in recent years, during a breakfast discussion on Dec. 18 at Joe’s Real BBQ.
Town Council members and high-ranking administrators met with lawmakers from Districts 12 and 17 — both include parts of Gilbert — for about an hour to discuss areas of mutual concern as the Legislature prepares for a new session next month.
Among the town’s chief interests is persuading the state to restore municipalities’ portion of the Highway User Revenue Fund, which is composed primarily of revenue from the gasoline and vehicle-license taxes.
