Tensions among members of Scottsdale’s General Plan 2014 Task Force boiled over this week after four members resigned, citing “unhealthy vilification” from other members.
Co-chair James Heitel and members Howard Myers, Ned O’Hearn and Joanne “Copper” Phillips turned in a resignation letter Jan. 13.
The four sit on a task force charged with drafting a new General Plan for Scottsdale. The planning document, which is required by law, guides the city’s character and development for 10 to 20 years.
“The unhealthy vilification of our legitimate concerns and efforts, even when backed up with facts and opinions from others, has precipitated our collective resignation,” the four said in the resignation letter to Scottsdale’s mayor and City Council.
