The River Bottom Grill would be extensively remodeled and replaced by a medical marijuana dispensary if applications submitted to the town are ultimately approved.
Ultra Health of Scottsdale is seeking a conditional use permit and design review for the dispensary. The Florence Planning and Zoning Commission is scheduled to consider the applications on Feb. 12. The Town Council is then expected to consider the request on March 17.
Six months ago, the council voted 4-2 to deny a permit for a dispensary at the former Big O Tires site. Opponents argued at that time it would be too close to a prison and other “sensitive uses.”
The new applications seek to remove those criticisms. The River Bottom site, on the north side of the Gila River, is far from other dispensaries, schools, churches and libraries as required by state law and town code, and is about 3,500 feet from the nearest residential neighborhood, according to Ultra Health’s application.
