Dalessandro appointed to state Senate, creating House vacancy

Green Valley Democrat Andrea Dalessandro was appointed to the Arizona State Senate on Tuesday morning, filling a vacancy left by former lawmaker Linda Lopez.

The Pima County Board of Supervisors appointed Dalessandro, who represents Legislative District 2 in the Arizona House of Representatives. Dalessandro was chosen from among three nominees forwarded to the board by LD2 precinct committeemen.

Lopez resigned from the Senate on Jan. 13 after accepting a job with the Easter Seals Blake Foundation in Tucson.

Dalessandro didn’t receive the most votes from precinct committeemen at a Saturday morning meeting of LD2 Democrats.  Tucson historic preservationist Demion Clinco garnered 28 votes, while Dalessandro received 26 votes in securing a nomination. Annabelle Nunez, a librarian with the University of Arizona’s Health Sciences Library, received 23 votes.
