Gilbert close to securing second university campus

Gilbert officials say they are close to landing the town’s second university campus just a few months after Chicago-based St. Xavier University announced it would open in the downtown Heritage District by 2015.

Town Manager Patrick Banger said officials have had discussions with four different universities, but he declined to reveal which school might be closest to a commitment to build a campus in Gilbert. A formal announcement could come by late spring, Banger told The Republic.

Gilbert is only interested in bringing a university partner to town that will invest in a true brick-and-mortar campus, including the full college “cultural experience” and potentially student dormitories, Banger said.
