Gilbert developer says apartment project will come to fruition, one way or another

Financing challenges have stalled plans for a 307-unit apartment complex in the Gilbert Town Square retail center, but developer Paul Stark says he remains committed to the project and still hopes to start construction this year.

The Gilbert Town Council in June approved a zoning change to make way for the apartments, which civil planners and local businesses hoped would infuse new energy into a commercial area that has struggled to generate customer traffic.

Preliminary plans for the Residences at Gilbert Town Square include seven apartment buildings on a 14-acre site near Gilbert Road and Civic Center Drive, on property once pegged by Walmart for a superstore.
