Gilbert resident Denny Barney has been elected as the chairman of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors for 2014, marking the first time since 2010 that an East Valley official has led the board. Mr. Barney, first elected in 2012, was chosen in a unanimous vote Jan. 8, according to a press release.
“We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us,” he said in outlining five major priorities. “This is the work of the people. It is not that glamorous, but we have a very specific responsibility and play a critical role,” he said in the release.
Mr. Barney said that county government can rise to a new level of service by being innovative and doing things “that seem unconventional,” he said.
