Mayor Price Appointed to National League of Cities Community and Economic Development Steering Committee

Maricopa, Arizona – January 8, 2014 – City of Maricopa Mayor Christian Price has been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2014 Community and Economic Development Steering Committee. The appointment was announced by NLC President Chris Coleman, mayor of St. Paul, Minnesota. This is Mayor Price’s second year serving on the committee, having also been appointed in 2013.

{riceThe National League of Cities is dedicated to helping city leaders build better communities. It serves as a resource to and advocate for more than 19,000 cities, villages and towns from across the country, representing more than 218 million Americans. The Community and Economic Development Steering Committee has the lead responsibility for developing NLC federal policy positions on issues involving community and economic development, housing, land use, recreation and parks, historic preservation and international competitiveness.

As a member of the committee, Mayor Price will play a key role in shaping NLC’s policy positions and advocating on behalf of America’s cities and towns before Congress, with the Administration and at home in Arizona. Since taking office in June 2012, Mayor Price has worked to ensure that Maricopa has a seat at the table within NLC as well as other organizations that affect change and impact policy at all levels of government.

This past year, Mayor Price was appointed as chair of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council’s Ambassador Committee. The  Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC) is a regional economic development group whose mission is to attract quality businesses to the Greater Phoenix region from around the world, and to advocate and champion foundational efforts to improve the region’s competitiveness.

GPEC has recognized Mayor Price for his dedication to advancing economic development not only in Maricopa but throughout Greater Phoenix. “We are excited to learn of Mayor Price’s reappointment to the National League of Cities Community and Economic Development Steering Committee,” said GPEC President and CEO Barry Broome. “The City of Maricopa is a young community with tremendous economic growth potential. Any opportunity to have a voice at the national level is a success for the entire region.”

Mayor Price also serves on the  Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) Economic Development Committee. MAG is a council of governments that focuses on long-range planning and policy development for the metropolitan Phoenix region. The role of the Economic Development Committee is to develop a plan that fosters and advances infrastructure in the region, especially transportation infrastructure that would further economic development.

“By serving on committees in NLC and other key organizations, I along with members of our City Council have an opportunity to advocate for and create both a regional and national awareness of Maricopa,” said Mayor Price. “The National League of Cities is an important voice for municipalities throughout the country and I am honored to be reappointed to the Community and Economic Development Steering Committee.”
