An Apache Junction startup looking to sprinkle the Valley with energy-efficient residential projects has chosen a central Mesa infill lot for the site of its latest proposal.
City planner Kim Steadman described the roughly 1-acre property to the northwest of Broadway and Gilbert roads as a historically “passed-over parcel” with largely commercial neighbors and one corner “encumbered by a city well site.” But owner One Green Development believes the site has the potential to evolve and become desirable, given the proximity of the city’s light-rail line expansion and the company’s plan to build 15 roomy, urban townhouses there.
“This is an area where Mesa kind of wants to change the look and increase the values of properties,” said John Ulibarri, chief operating officer with One Green. “We have a product that is somewhat unique … which we believe is going to be beneficial in terms of something new.”
