For Phoenix residents, 2014 is shaping up to be a year of new political leadership, familiar budget fights and ongoing economic progress. Major leadership changes are coming at City Hall, with the hiring of a new city manager and addition of two new City Council members, but officials are gearing up for a repeat of previous battles over the city’s budget and employee-union contracts.
Outside city government, Phoenix residents can expect to see progress on several economic fronts. The real-estate market is expected to continue improving, prompting more sellers to come to the market. And downtown is continuing to emerge as an economic and cultural hub, with several infill projects and Arizona State University’s law school slated to break ground.
The Republic has complied a list of major Phoenix happenings expected in 2014, items we’ll watch closely in the new year.
