New projects, faces await Phoenix in 2014

For Phoenix residents, 2014 is shaping up to be a year of new political leadership, familiar budget fights and ongoing eco­nomic progress. Major leadership changes are coming at City Hall, with the hiring of a new city manager and addition of two new City Council members, but officials are gearing up for a repeat of previous battles over the city’s budget and employee-union contracts.

Outside city government, Phoenix residents can expect to see progress on several eco­nomic fronts. The real-estate market is expected to continue improving, prompting more sellers to come to the market. And downtown is continuing to emerge as an economic and cul­tural hub, with several infill projects and Arizona State Uni­versity’s law school slated to break ground.

The Republic has complied a list of major Phoenix happen­ings expected in 2014, items we’ll watch closely in the new year.
