Pinal County Water Group wants suggestions on extinguishment credits

Having spent four meetings listening to water reports, updates and a history of the Arizona Department of Water Resources plan to eliminate extinguishment credits, Pinal Local Water Group Chairman Dick Powell said it’s time for members to hear from farmers and people affected by the plan.

“We need to learn how much people in ag rely on the credits,” Powell said at a Tuesday meeting of the water group.

The self-governing 15-member citizen group is tasked with analyzing ADWR’s plan to zero out extinguishment credits and consider alternatives.

Powell believes eliminating the extinguishment credits will hurt the local economy.

“I’d like to move on and hear from cities and the ag economy,” Powell said.
