After more than a year of legal wrangling, two former top attorneys in the Pinal County Attorney’s Office have been cleared of charges leveled against them by the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office.

Former Chief Civil Deputy Chris Roll and Deputy County Albo Attorney Joe Albo

were accused by the Sheriff’s Office of a multitude of ethics violations, including disseminating confidential information and having a conflict of interest in using information to the detriment of a client.

In all, four ethics Roll violations were alleged against the pair. Sheriff Paul Babeu, in a Feb. 21, 2013 letter to the Pinal County Board of Supervisors, alleged Albo and Roll had green-lighted “the release of documents to a member of the media which were attorney client, law enforcement sensitive, privileged and confidential.”

The Arizona State Bar dismissed the charges against Albo and Roll on Dec. 13, 2013, but Tim Gaffney appealed that decision to the Attorney Discipline Probable Attorney Jim Walsh.
