Rep. Adam Kwasman, R-Oro Valley, introduced legislation Thursday that would repeal Arizona’s Medicaid expansion, reversing the outcome of the most contentious legislative fight of 2013.
Although the makeup of the state Legislature has not changed other than three Senators being replaced, and there has been no indication that the small band of Republicans who sided with Democrats to pass the expansion have changed their stance on the issue, Kwasman said the fight is too important to give up now.
“Just as the U.S. House of Representatives should still fight to repeal Obamacare, we should still fight to repeal the Obamacare Medicaid expansion,” Kwasman said. “It’s about making sure the issue does not die.”
Rep. Ethan Orr, R-Tucson, was one of the Republican lawmakers who supported the Medicaid expansion in 2013. In Orr’s estimation, Kwasman’s bill has practically no chance to pass.
