SOLON completes 1.9 MW of Solar School Projects in Arizona

Rooftop solar and canopies will provide long-term reliability, affordable energy, community stewardship to 9 Arizona school campuses

Tucson, Arizona, January 27th, 2014: SOLON Corporation, a leading provider of solar energy solutions in the southwest, announced today the completion of 1.92 MW of solar systems for three Arizona school districts – Liberty Unified School District, Ft. Huachuca School District and Pima County Joint Technical Education District (JTED). The systems are comprised of solar canopies and rooftop systems covering nine campuses and were all commissioned at the end of 2013.

1.2 MW of canopy systems are deployed over four campuses in the Liberty Unified School District, located in Buckeye, AZ; 465 kW of canopy and rooftop systems are spread over two campuses in the Ft. Huachuca district located in Sierra Vista, AZ; and 257 kW of canopy systems are installed over three JTED campuses, located in Tucson, AZ. SOLON designed, engineered, constructed, arranged financing, and commissioned all of the systems. As a full-service provider, SOLON will also continue to operate and maintain the systems.

For all of the systems, solar power will be provided to the school district through solar service agreements (SSA). Through this type of agreement, the district had no upfront investment, nor will they incur any annual expenditure over the systems’ lifetime to benefit from the clean electricity they generate.
