Pinal County leaders unanimously named interim manager Greg Stanley as the next county manager Wednesday.
Stanley’s appointment is controversial because he was the Board of Supervisors’ second choice for the job and because he was blasted in an external investigation last May which resulted in his being placed on administrative leave.
A month ago the board’s first pick, El Paso official Stewart Ed, suddenly withdrew his name, after a $15,000 national search.
On Wednesday the board voted 5-0 to offer the job to Stanley, 59. Stanley was the assistant county manager until he took over as interim manager in July, when his predecessor, Fritz Behring, stepped down.
