Apple tax break bills in Arizona face resistance after lawmakers include loophole for copper mines

Two Arizona bills that would give Apple Inc. tax breaks for its new Mesa plant are facing some resistance at the State Capitol.

One of the bills is running into opposition after Republican lawmakers added language to a measure extending manufacturing energy use tax breaks for Apple to copper and other mining smelters. Senate Bill 1413 eliminates sales taxes paid by manufacturers for energy and utility use. It now includes language extending the tax breaks to the mining industry.
