State health officials are proposing changes for Arizona’s medical marijuana program, including one that would allow additional permit holders to grow their own, the Associated Press reports
That provision in draft rules now up for public comment would change a measurement to determine whether medical marijuana permit holders can legally grow their own marijuana.
Current rules prohibit growing by permit holders if they live within 25 miles of a dispensary as measured by a straight line. The proposed new version would change that to the shortest distance by road.
Marijuana patients and advocates had complained that the straight-line measurement was too restrictive.
Other changes proposed in the draft rules include making more people eligible for discounts on patient registration cards.
Health Services Director Will Humble says the changes could take effect in early 2015.
