Manuel Vega, formerly the administrative assistant to Pinal County Supervisor Cheryl Chase, is considering a run for a constable position just days after being fired by his former boss and political ally.

Vega says his Jan. 22 firing by Chase, a Republican from San Tan Valley, who had hired him despite his being on a do-not-hire list because he lied to a superior while employed at the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, was the result of complaints against other county employees and elected officials not turning out in his favor.

Vega requested an investigation into 15 complaints he levied against Supervisor Steve Miller of Casa Grande, former Pinal County Manager Fritz Behring, former Pinal County Internal Audit employee Jennifer Smith and former Human Resources Director Birdie DeNero. The investigation was conducted by a third party, Investigative Research Inc., which found none of Vega’s claims could be substantiated by any witnesses and did not hold up to scrutiny.

Vega says the results of the investigation did not shock him, though his firing did.
