Maricopa councilwoman Julia Gusse announced her candidacy Monday as Justice of the Peace for the Maricopa-Stanfield Justice Court.
Gusse’s seat on city council is up for grabs this November. In addition to announcing her candidacy, she also endorsed former Maricopa Police Chief Patrick Melvin, who announced his run for city council in the fall.
“After speaking to a few community members (of which I consider my mentors), my friends and family, I have decided not to run for reelection onto council but rather pursue the Justice of the Peace elected position,” Gusse said in a statement. “I have worked diligently on the council and feel that I should move forward and continue to serve my community.”
