We owe Curt Schilling some love

This editor has lost three close buddies and a brother to cancer, so the news Wednesday former pitching star Curt Schilling has been diagnosed with the “Big C” upset me.

I informed a friend of the news, and his response was, “So?”

Well, here’s what’s so.

Schilling is bankrupt after a multi-million dollar dream video business went south. He disclosed last year he had suffered a heart attach while watching his wife run in a marathon. She is surviving stage 2 melanoma, the worst of skin cancers.

And you ask, so? And that, so far, has been the media’s attitude — reporters would rather discuss ad nauseum whether Seattle win the Super Bowl again or some athlete’s groin injury.

No doubt many of you shared in the glory of the Arizona Diamondback’s World Series victory in 2001, bringing great pride to your city and state. Schilling was key in that series.

I’m sure Schilling would trade all that for good health, however.

Sadly, those cold-blooded people who get some sick pleasure from the misfortunes of the famous trip my ire button.

Let us share in Curt’s battle and optimism.

“With my incredibly talented medical team, I’m ready to try and win another big game,” he said in a prepared statement. “I’ve been so very blessed and I feel grateful for what God has allowed my family to have and experience, and I’ll embrace this fight just like the rest of them, with resolute faith and head on.”

We owe him some love.
