Surprise water might be developer option

Whoever wants to buy a 53-acre site that bumps up to Sun City Westcould be looking at a hefty cost for water.

Maricopa County was planning to auction the excess land near Loop 303 and U.S. 60 in March but is now postponing the sale until it is clear how water will be supplied to the site.

If the developer wants to tap into the existing water system in Sun City West, PORA will first need to approve it, said Shawn Bradford, Epcor Water Co. operations director. The agency services Sun City West.

If not, the land buyer would then need to build a pipeline underneath Loop 303, the BNSF Railway Co.’s track and Grand Avenue and connect into the Agua Fria District, which is also served by Epcor, Mr. Bradford said.
