Only one non-incumbent so far has taken out paperwork to run for the Peoria City Council in an election year that could see as many as five of seven seats on the ballot.
The seats for the mayor, and the Palo Verde, Pine and Acacia districts, comprising the southern portion of Peoria, are up for election this year. The Mesquite District also could be up for election if current Councilwoman Cathy Carlat runs for mayor.
“This is a critical year for the city,” said Mayor Bob Barrett, who will reach his term limit this year. “Theoretically, you could turn over five seats and that’s a huge, huge difference.”
