Visitors to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin West are often struck by the contrast between the historic look and the new-again ideas from the man who dubbed himself the world’s greatest architect.
What isn’t so evident, however, are the ravages of nearly eight decades in the desert. Leaky roofs, cracking paint and an ancient system of water wells are some of the problems that have prompted the first comprehensive restoration effort in the Scottsdale compound’s 77-year-old history.
The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation has hired restoration experts, Chicago-based Harboe Architects, to catalog interior and exterior damage and needed improvements.
