[EDITORIAL] SRP in Bouse: No need to apologize

Our View: Be fair, be just to landowners — but still build that power plant

If SRP is going to buy land for a possible Bouse power plant, it not only should be fair, it should be just

Hard to fault owners: If you live in Bouse, you really must want to live in Bouse

SRP has a duty to its utility customers to plan for future power needs and Bouse fits the bill

Should the day come that Salt River Project builds a power plant near tiny Bouse, Ariz., property owners there should expect not just fair compensation for their land, but just compensation.

There is a difference. Fair compensation generally means market rate. And, let’s face it, Bouse is as isolated and sparsely populated as a La Paz County village can be. The big city, Parker, is 26 miles to the northwest. As the price of raw land in Bouse goes, the values are not high.

“Just” compensation is another matter.
